Registration of the foreign citizen with the State immigration service

Foreigners and stateless persons who legally arrived to Ukraine may temporarily stay within its territory based on a passport which should be registered in accordance with the procedure established by the law of Ukraine. A passport is submitted by a foreigner (a stateless person) for registration to a state border officer at a border inspection post. Registration is made for a short stay for a term:

• specified in visa;
• not exceeding 90 days within 180 days of the first entry – for citizens of countries having visa-free entry to Ukraine.

Foreigners and stateless persons may be released from registration of their passports if there is a relevant international treaty of Ukraine on condition of reciprocity.

If a foreigner intends to stay in Ukraine over 90 days within 180 days, he/she must check-in timely with local Office of Immigration and Citizenship. A foreigner failing to comply with these requirements is subject to penalties and may be deported from Ukraine.

As prescribed by law, applications on extended stay are to be submitted not earlier than 10 days and not later than 3 days to expiration of registration term.
